lawyers building apps app for iPhone and iPad
The reason why there are relatively few law-focussed apps is not because of technical hurdles, or cost, or expertise: it is simply because few lawyers have turned their minds to ideas for apps. Taking this single step — thinking about ideas — will transform the legal practice in ways we cannot even contemplate. And taking this step is remarkably easy, especially if the following starting-point questions are considered: What principle do I want to teach? What problem do I want to solve? and, What do I think would be really cool? Change to our practice is not merely coming, it is already here. You can be part of that change.
This app is about generating ideas. Its intention is to get lawyers to look at what they have always done in a different way. From there, lawyers need only use the skills they already have to produce something new. None of this change should be intimidating but rather it should be liberating.
Lawyers are used to thinking about the practice of law within the confines of what they have been taught or their daily practice. Coming up with new approaches to common issues is somewhat foreign. Lawyers are creatures of habit and we do not consider what we are doing within the big picture of our practice often enough. But what lawyers do have is the ability to articulate legal concepts and strategies. This ability will be the foundation of the legal apps which will change our practice.
This app provides a step-by-step process for coming up with ideas and turning those ideas into working apps. Tips, resources, and areas of opportunity are provided to assist with the building an app. Hopefully, this app will be the starting point for lawyers to generate ideas and produce apps that benefit the practice and clients.
